Lucy's have one overwhelming characteristic: they are popular with men. It
isn't that anyone else is not popular; it is only that their popularity often
overshadows their craft. They usually result in photo spreads that cause
men to gape with that empty look in their face. Scratch the surface of
any Lucy, and you will find a hidden world. They like having their hidden
world's revealed and recognized, but often this is difficult to accomplish
because the impact of their image overshadows their individual talents
and characteristics. In one case, one Lucy even did it to women, who
imitated the character she created by dressing up, much in the same way
that the trekkies honored their favorites.
So, here we have a mixture of skills, all bound up in packages of
lovable Lucys. We start with
Lucy Becker, a
favorite from the tabloids,
Lucy Lawless, whose
warrior princess character excited both men and women,
Lucy Liu, intense
professional who may be best known as one of Charlie's Angels,
Lucy Pinder,
another UK page 3 model, and
Luci Victoria,
our third page 3 model, and men's magazine favorite.
Lucys have to watch out that they don't fall into the weirdo trap. Lucy
does not have to mean "fast and loose". Mid twentieth century Lucys that
gave us pause for thought included Lucy Ricardo (the character of Lucille
Ball) and the aggressive animated Lucy of Charlie Brown fame. They have
enough of an edge of annoyance to them that you should not prejudge a Lucy
until you have met her.
