Although Stars Wars became a monster hit in the 1970s, it wasn't until
the latter years of the millennium that LEGO joined the excitement,
licensing Star Wars from 1999 and far into the 2000s. It was a gamble
for the toy makers, for it had been more than a decade and a half since
the last movie in the original trilogy had been shown to audiences
around the world. But it was a knowing risk, for George Lucas was about
to release a prequel trilogy, which was much anticipated by fans, not
only because it extended the stories, but because cinematic
technological advances promised images and effects that were expected to
surpass the original films. The new episodes were I: The Phantom
Menace, II: The Attack of the Clones and III: Revenge of The Sith, with
model 7140 X-Wing being considered the first model released (despite the
fact that a number were released in and about the same time).
Out of Episode I: The Phantom Menace came 3343 Star Wars #4 with
Minifigs: Battle Droid (Two) Battle Droid Commander, 7101 Lightsaber
Duel (with Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn), 7111 Droid Fighter, 7115 Gungan
Patrol, with Gungan Warrior and Jar Jar Binks, 7121 Naboo Swamp with
Battle Droids (Two), Qui-Gon Jinn, and Jar Jar Binks, 7124 Flash
Speeder, 7126 Battle Droid Carrier, 7131 Anakin's Podracer, 7141 Naboo
Fighter, 7151 Sith Infiltrator, 7155 Trade Federation AAT, 7159 Podracer
Bucket, 7161 Gungan Sub, 7171 Mos Espa Podrace, 7184 Trade Federation
MTT, 7186 Watto's Junkyard, 7203 Jedi Defense I, 7204 Jedi Defense II,
Mini-Sets: 4485 Mini Sebulba's Podracer & Anakin's Podracer, 4491 Mini
MTT, 4493 Mini Sith Infiltrator, Technic Sets: 8000 Pit Droid, 8001

The Series Continued with numerous sets from the subsequent episodes.
They always released a number of Ultimate Collector Series, which are
higher quality and more expensive.
In addition there have been two Lego Stars video games. Because many
artists were unhappy with the limited choice of minifigs, they created
their own Stars Wars minifig characters. Being unofficial and extremely
rare, they can trade for large amounts on online auctions.
