McDonalds repeated the format for the previous year in the 1993
hockey card
issue. They produced 27 regular cards, 6 holograms, and
1 checklist. The holograms, as usual, are difficult to get, perhaps
not as difficult as those in the previous year. The major
difference was a redemption card that allowed you to mail away for a
large format Patrick Roy card. These come up frequently on auction, almost
always in their original plastic wrapper. What never appears is the
actual redemption insert card. If you open any unsealed 1993
packs and come up with a redemption card, hang to it, as it could
prove to be a lot more valuable than the Patrick Roy redemption prize
card. The market is fickle, though, and it may take years for truly
rare cards from the McDonalds series to make any significant impact.
